Summerhill Dairy is a newly established
family-run business, with
Robert and Sara Cole steering at the helm. The Cole
family has been
involved in milk production since 1942; spanning
two generations
and currently moving into its third. Our dairy farm is situated on the edge of the
Cotswolds and is nestled down in a valley next
to the river Stour.
Here at Summerhill Dairy we produce luxuriously creamy yoghurt from our pedigree herd of Golden Guernsey cows. We can assure that you get the
freshest finest quality yoghurt because we make everything ourselves here on the farm. From
the
daily care of the cows to the yoghurt
production,
we are always here to muck in and
keep things moving forwards.
The Guernsey cow first came to Lanes End Farm in 1957 and ran with a small herd of dairy Shorthorns.
In the mid 70's the Shorthorns were sold at auction; allowing us to concentrate on developing a
top pedigree Guernsey herd. Each cow is individually named and every care is taken to ensure that they
are kept to the highest possible standards.
In the
winter we house the cows in big straw yards. They
are fed hay, maize silage, wheat, barley and
beans;
all of which are home grown. In the summer they
are free to graze in lush grass meadows that
run
alongside the river Stour.
Guernsey milk is higher in butterfat than other
breeds; thus producing a slightly yellower and wonderfully creamy yoghurt.
We are active members of the Guernsey Society and show our cows both locally and nationally with much success, with wins at the Royal Show including;
Champion Best Guernsey Cow or Heifer,
Champion Best Guernsey Heifer in Milk or Calf,
Best pair of Guernsey Females.
Our cows have had their share
of the spotlight and have appeared on Town & Country television. Whilst they can also be heard mooing daily on
BBC Radio 4's The Archers.
